Summer holiday

It's great that the weather is so beautiful, no one minds that I've not updated the blog in over a month. You guys are brilliant, just so understanding. And attractive too.

Zoot is back! He's plastered some classic designs on a few legendary spots, like this one on Bradford Street:

Wah and C3 were involved in a open mic and live art event at The Coffee Room on Saturday night, my attention was mainly focused on drinking beer so I don't have finished piece photos...

A new pub is opening on Meriden Street soon and so Mister Boogie Dave has enlisted the help of street artists such as Tempo33, Ouch, N4T4, Philth and Juice to get it looking Digbeth friendly.

Street Spotted at 6/8 Kafe

You can't judge me this time! Yesterday I slept, worked and put all the photos from Street Spotted on my Flickr at 1 in the morning! No complaining! You should have been there to see it live!

Street Spotted was a success! The cafe's basement was busy constantly from 4-8 and some excellent work was produced by Curs, G87, Lisk and Vomit. Box and Blackbone also came down from Manchester for the event but all that talent couldn't be left just sitting at a table so they did a piece together on a spare board. Photo time!

Street Spotted has a poster!

I made a poster! Well, Lisk did all the arty picture backgrounds and names and the logo and the 'live art' bubble and I did the boring writing and wrestled with photoshop for a few days.

I'd like to draw your attention to the additions of Riseone and Mew to the line-up! There will also be free stickers and stuff for the grabbing and some more extravagant work for sale so keep some pennies away from the bar.

If you've not already seen it, here's the Facebook event page, two weeks to go!

Additions to the streets this week came mainly from PTP who has now departed Birmingham for university related things. He has promised to keep in touch and we swapped some stickers and whatnot but Digbeth and I will miss him.

Big duckie! - Bradford Street, Digbeth

Vomit 'peck' - Bradford Street, Digbeth
(having a go at drawing someone else's character is called a 'bite' but ducks would 'peck', you probably knew that)

6TWO4 'peck' - Birchall Street, Digbeth

 My very own Malcom!

Also new on the streets are some quite badly stencilled moustaches (my can skills aren't brilliant but I haven't covered Digbeth to show everyone).

The mystery moustache person seems to be preparing us for something so I thought they might be promotional, but there's already a well established music event that happens every couple of months called Mustachio! with a very similar logo so it can't be them and I don't see someone blatantly ripping off their design.

Also, they've sprayed one of these moustaches over Golden Boy's giant paste which hurts me inside and is hugely disrespectful and breaks what is surely one of the first rules of graffiti/street art; don't go over anyone else's work unless you're friends/have permission.

'Graffiti Wars' that was shown on Channel 4 earlier this month showed the very creative 'covering over' fight between King Robbo and Banksy (I have fairly reliable info that Robbo's out of the coma now, by the way). Watch it if you can find it, it seems to have been taken off 4OD.

Princess Hype

I'm sure you've all been on the edge of your seats about that 'shocking and exciting street art-related announcement' so I'm going to talk about some other stuff first.

Sticky Missions finishes in two weeks time and Obit has just announced that the winner will be receiving an Ultimate Collective Sketchbooks zine (it's not really a zine though, it's 120 pages of excellent sketchbook work and hand sewn together by Obit himself). I'm now even more determined to win so I've gone through all the photos in the Sticky Missions group (only counting actual stickers though, not sketches) and done a leaderboard of the top 5 to see who my competition is:

Princess (me) - 44
I was on 43 but no one else has done Sticky Mission 44 (Put a sticker somewhere really high - Bonus point for highest) so I'm claiming that bonus point.

Case - 36
Case thinks he has 37 but on careful analysis it seems that for Sticky Mission 9 (Multi point task - Stick a sticker on police property, fire department property and metro (underground) property) you get three points for doing all of them and he's only done police property and metro property. Also, for Sticky Mission 23 (Install a 2ft by 2ft cardboard in your town centre or city centre bonus point for the photo with most people in it), Vomit had more people in his installation photo so he gets the bonus.

Vomit - 28
EDIT: I was wrong, Vom has done all of Sticky Mission 9. People need to put all their evidence in an obvious place where a lazy Floozy can find it. His offering for Sticky Mission 23 (Install a 2ft by 2ft cardboard in your town centre or city centre bonus point for the photo with most people in it) has got the most people in the photo so he gets the bonus point for that.

Not - 21
He could have 20 points if his sticker for number 36 (Make a sticker of your favourite animal and put it up in a zoo) had actually been put up in a zoo.

Obit - 17
Generally excellent work though I think it would be unfair if someone co-running the competition won it..

Just before I travelled home to visit my parents, I finished three little canvases complete with little easels. They're all 3.5" x 2.5" and all for sale or trade apart from the green lady which now belongs to PTP in return for some goodies that I haven't seen yet. I am poor and need money for blank stickers and white acrylic so if you'd like either of the remaining ones, feel free to tell me through Flickr or my email
I've also been working on a new idea for stickers and maybe pastes using negative space, here's the best sketch I've done so far:

Now time for that announcement! You've probably just skipped past all the other stuff I've written; shame on you!

The long-awaited annoucment is that Lisk and myself have been formulating a plan for the past couple of months to have a live drawing event featuring some of our favourite local and not-so-local street artists and now it's actually happening! On the 10th September from 7PM you can come to Street Spotted in The Spotted Dog's garden and watch at least six artists drawing/painting/pasting. So far confirmed we have:

 Wah

And there'll be DJs and a barbeque and you don't even have to pay to get in!

Poster and more details to come on the Facebook Event Page and next week's post when I'm back in Birmingham and available for meetings and organising. Hoorah!
